Made-to-Order Clothing: Sizes, Measurements and Design Adjustments
At Bright&Shiny, all garments are made to order, including items ordered in standard sizes. This means that most products are produced after the order is placed, rather than simply taken from mass-produced stock.
However, “made to order” can mean different things depending on how the garment is prepared. Some customers choose a standard size, some choose made-to-measure, and some request design adjustments based on our existing models and available options.
This guide explains how our ordering process works, what the difference is between standard size and made-to-measure, and what kind of design adjustments may be possible.
All garments are made to order
Even when you choose a standard size, your garment is still made to order. A standard-size item is not the same as a regular ready-made item from a mass-market store. It is produced specifically for your order, using our standard pattern proportions and selected product options.
This approach allows us to offer a wide range of materials, colors, sizes and product options while keeping the garment production controlled and consistent.
For many products, height is also selected in the product options. This is important because length can affect the final fit of catsuits, bodysuits, leggings, dresses and other close-fitting garments. When available, the height option helps us adapt the standard pattern more accurately to the customer.
Standard size does not mean ready-made
When you order a standard size, we use an existing standard pattern as the basis for the garment. The size is selected according to our size chart, and the garment is made after the order is placed.
Standard size can be a good choice when your measurements match one size closely. It is especially suitable when the main body measurements and proportions fall within the same size range and the product options provide enough adjustment for the garment type.
Before choosing a standard size, we recommend comparing your body measurements carefully with our size chart. Do not choose only by the size you usually wear in other brands, because sizing can vary significantly between manufacturers.
What made-to-measure means
Made-to-measure means that the garment is prepared according to the body measurements provided by the customer. This option is recommended when your measurements do not match one standard size closely, when you are between sizes, or when body proportions require a more individual approach.
The main difference is the pattern preparation. For a standard size, we use a standard pattern and adjust where the product options allow it. For made-to-measure, the garment is prepared according to the measurements you provide.
Made-to-measure is especially useful for close-fitting garments where body proportions matter: catsuits, bodysuits, leggings, dresses and other fitted styles. The closer the pattern is to the customer’s actual measurements, the better the garment can sit on the body.
Production time
Production time for standard-size and made-to-measure garments is usually the same. The difference is not that one option is simply “ready” and the other is “custom”. In both cases, the garment is produced after the order is placed.
The difference is in the preparation approach. A standard-size order is based on our existing standard pattern, while a made-to-measure order is prepared according to the customer’s measurements.
Production time may still vary depending on the current production load, order complexity, selected material, product options and other factors. If timing is important, please contact us before placing the order.
Standard size, made-to-measure or design adjustment?
| Option | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Standard size | We use our standard pattern proportions and selected product options | Customers whose measurements match one size closely |
| Standard size with height option | We use a standard size and adjust length where height selection is available | Customers who fit the size chart but need the correct garment length |
| Made-to-measure | We prepare the garment according to the customer’s body measurements | Customers between sizes or outside the standard chart |
| Design adjustment | We modify selected details, options, colors or materials where possible | Customers who want a different version of an existing product |
| Design combination | We may combine elements from our existing designs where technically possible | Customers who like parts of different Bright&Shiny models |
Design adjustments and product options
Many Bright&Shiny products include a wide range of options. Depending on the garment, these may include material, color, height, design details, openings, sleeves, legs, collar style, zipper options or other available choices.
In addition to standard product options, we can often adjust or combine elements of our existing designs. For example, it may be possible to combine the shape of one dress with details from another model, add or remove selected elements, make different parts in different colors, change the material, or add a logo.
These changes are based on our existing designs and technical possibilities. If you would like a modified version of a product, it is always better to contact us before ordering so we can confirm whether the change is possible and whether it affects price or production time.
Customization based on existing designs
At the moment, our customization is mainly based on our existing models, patterns and available construction options. This means we focus on modifying, adapting and combining Bright&Shiny designs rather than creating completely new designs from scratch.
This approach helps us maintain better control over fit, construction and production quality. It also helps customers understand what can realistically be changed before the order is placed.
If you have an idea based on one of our products, please send us the product link and describe what you would like to change. Clear references, color choices and explanations help us understand the request more accurately.
Different colors and material combinations
One of the most popular ways to personalize a garment is to choose a different color or combine several colors in one item. Some designs can look very different when made in contrasting colors or when specific parts are highlighted with another shade.
Depending on the product construction, it may also be possible to combine different materials or use a selected material for only part of the garment. Not every combination is technically suitable, so such requests should be confirmed before ordering.
You can compare available colors and materials in our color chart. Please remember that actual colors may vary depending on screen settings and lighting conditions.
Adding or removing details
Some customers want a cleaner design, while others want more options or visual details. Depending on the model, it may be possible to add or remove selected elements, adjust openings, change lengths, combine parts of designs or simplify the garment.
Not every change is possible for every product. Some details are part of the garment construction and affect the way the item fits, stretches or holds its shape. For this reason, design changes should always be checked before production.
If a requested change affects the fit, pattern, material behavior or construction, we may recommend a different solution that is safer for the final result.
Logo and branding options
For performances, presentations, events, photo shoots or promotional use, it may be possible to add a logo or branding element to selected garments. This depends on the product, material, placement, size and technical method used for the logo.
If you need a garment with a logo, please contact us before ordering and provide the logo file, preferred placement, approximate size and any visual references. We will review whether the request is possible for the selected garment.
Fit and measurement responsibility
For made-to-measure orders, the final fit depends strongly on the accuracy of the measurements provided by the customer. We provide measurement guidance and may contact you if something looks unusual, but not every measuring mistake can be detected before production.
Incorrect measurements may affect the final result. For this reason, it is very important to follow our measurement instructions carefully and provide all requested measurements for the selected garment.
Made-to-measure does not mean that a perfect fit can be guaranteed in every case. It means the garment is made according to the measurements provided. The more accurate the measurements are, the better the final result can be.
How to choose the best option
If your measurements match our size chart closely, standard size can be a good choice. If the product includes a height option, select the correct height carefully because it can affect the length and comfort of the garment.
If your measurements fall between sizes or do not match one standard size well, made-to-measure is usually the safer option. This is especially important for close-fitting garments and for customers whose body proportions differ from the standard size chart.
If you like an existing product but want to change colors, details, material, logo placement or combine elements from another model, contact us before ordering so we can confirm whether the adjustment is possible.
Before placing an order
Before placing an order, we recommend checking the product description, available options, size chart and material information. If you are unsure about size, measurements or design changes, it is better to ask before production begins.
For questions about fit, you can read our guide on how to choose the right size. You can also review our materials and care guide and explore available colors in the color chart.
If you would like to discuss a design adjustment or product combination, please contact us with the product link and a clear description of the requested changes.
Final recommendation
All Bright&Shiny garments are made to order, but the ordering method can be different. Standard size is based on our standard patterns and selected product options. Made-to-measure is prepared according to your body measurements. Design adjustments are possible when they are based on our existing models and technically suitable for production.
The best choice depends on your measurements, the selected product and the changes you want. If your body matches the size chart closely, standard size may work well. If your measurements do not match one size clearly, made-to-measure is usually the better option. If you want to modify an existing design, please contact us before ordering.
Tip: Made-to-order does not always mean made-to-measure. Standard-size garments are also produced after the order is placed, while made-to-measure garments are prepared according to the measurements you provide.
